01Pressure strategy

Real-time pressure strategy for a narrow-margin MPD interval

Calibrating the operating plan against downhole measurements instead of relying on a static model alone.

Pressure targets should be calibrated against what the well is actually doing. In a narrow-margin MPD interval, prior work used PWD-based static pressure data and pumps-on/pumps-off comparisons to reconcile downhole mud weight, annular friction and surface-backpressure targets. The result was a traceable drilling and tripping roadmap based on measured well behavior.

02Connection diagnostic

Connection pressure-control and hydraulic-model diagnostic

Separating annular friction, surface-system friction and sensor-reference effects across changing flow paths.

A connection-control issue that looked like a generic model error was traced to how annular density, surface friction and pressure-reference effects were combined across different flow paths. By separating those components and comparing pumps-on/pumps-off behavior, the diagnostic established a practical route to verify and correct the required connection backpressure.

03Readiness assurance

Integrated MPD detailed-engineering and readiness assurance

Reviewing the well, equipment, model and procedures as one operational system.

Independent assurance was applied to a complex MPD section by checking the basis of design, model limits, equipment interfaces, fingerprinting plan, connection and tripping sequences, and contingency logic as one system. The review converted fragmented inputs into prioritized findings and a clearer readiness basis before execution.

04Published methodology

Pressure-aware MGS and riser-gas-handling capacity methodology

Reframing separator capacity as coupled venting, separation and liquid-handling limits.

Mud-gas-separator capacity was reframed as three coupled limits — gas venting, gas-liquid separation and liquid handling — rather than a single nameplate number. Published work extended the framework to pressure-aware MPD and riser-gas-handling conditions and established a basis for transient verification and operating-envelope development.
